(HILLSBORO, Mo.) The Jefferson College Vikings baseball team went 2-0 Saturday defeating Crowder 1-0 and 14-6 during their doubleheader.
Head coach Pat Evers focuses on the efficient performance from starting pitcher Troy Newell.
Newell threw a complete game shutout giving up just two hits while striking out six hitters along the way. Newell is now 4-1 on the year with a 1.53 ERA and hasn’t given up an earned run in his last three outings. Game two was less about the pitching, and more about the offense for the Vikings as they scored in every inning but the third with home runs from Ryan Mantle and Ryan Fish helping to lead the way…
Sophomore Cody Creed and freshman Hunter Swift will get the starts to close out the series on Sunday afternoon. Creed will enter the start with a 1-2 record and a 3.62 ERA. He threw a complete game giving up just three runs in a loss to Joliet JC his last time out. Swift is still looking for his first collegiate win and is coming off of a start in which he threw five innings and give up two runs in a loss to Joliet.
