Watch Out for Fake Eclipse Glasses

(Farmington) If you’re wanting to watch the solar eclipse on August 21st, astronomers are warning viewers to make sure the special eclipse viewing glasses you use are legitimate.

The American astronomical Society says counterfeit knockoffs may not be safe for your eyes… and staring at the sun with them could cause damage you may not even realize until later.

The group’s spokesman Rick Fienberg says many of the glasses being sold on Amazon are not certified to be safe.

Fienberg said it can be hard to tell the difference between authentic and counterfeit glasses…so he recommends using NASA’s list of reputable sellers.

A large swath of Missouri will see the total eclipse on Monday, August 21st.
