Festus Tigers Claim First Ever Baseball State Championship! Defeating Borgia 8-1

In the bottom of the 2nd, Borgia loaded the bases with nobody out, but managed only one run to tie it up as pitcher Mason Shirmer managed to limit the damage.

With the game tied at 1, Festus reclaimed the lead with a two-run single in the top of the fourth by Brady Nolan…

The Tigers added another run in the fourth to make it 4-1.

Festus kept things going pushing their lead to 7-1 thanks to Tyler Bizzle…

Starter Mason Shirmer left in the bottom of the 6th inning to give way to senior Nate Moore who closed it out the rest of the way.

Festus Head Coach Jeff Montgomery commented on how good it felt to win the title.

Winning pitcher Mason Schirmer commented about the Tiger’s defense that helped him out of jams in the second and 5th innings.

Festus assistant coach Barry Stafford calls the pitches from the dugout and he says he wasn’t worried when Schirmer struggled.

Festus closes out the state championship season with a record of 27-8.

The team arrived back in town shortly after nine ‘clock Saturday night and the team bus with the help of a police escort, rolled through downtown as part of the “Mayor’s Car Cruise”.
