APR. 9TH, 2017 VIKINGS BASEBALL WINS NINTH IN A ROW IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF ST. CHARLES (Audio)

(COTTLEVILLE, Mo.) The Jefferson College Baseball Vikings closed out a weekend series against St. Charles Community College in Cottleville Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep.

Jeffco took game one by a score of 10-0 in five innings with an offensive attack and five shutout innings from sophomore Cody Creed. Creed threw the shutout scattering just two hits along the way. Game two saw the Vikings win in five innings again with a 16-0 win.

The four game sweep gives the Vikings a nine game winning streak and they outscored St. Charles 41-1 in the series. Sophomore Ryan Mantle drove in five runs and hit two home runs in the doubleheader. He now has six homers and 30 RBIs on the year.

Evers adds sophomore Justin Dirden continues to stay hot…

Dirden had a huge four game series hitting three home runs and driving in eight runs while going 7-12 at the plate. He is now hitting .308 with five home runs and 24 RBIs on the year. Josh Ray picked up the game two win on the mound going three shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out five. Pitchers Noah Skaggs and Cole Milam each threw a scoreless inning in relief.

The two wins also crossed a milestone for Evers as he picked up his 100th career victory in the second game as the Jeffco head coach. Evers is in his third year as the head coach of the Vikings and currently holds a record of 100-49. Jeffco is looking for its third consecutive MCCAC conference title under Evers.

Also, sophomore catcher Cole Bornhop announed he will continue playing baseball at Southeast Missouri State University next season. Evers said it will be a good place for him to continue to develop his game…

The Vikings improve to 27-10 on the year and will next be in action Tuesday afternoon at home in a doubleheader against Lewis & Clark College.
