(FESTUS, Mo.) The Festus Tigers are in the state sectional round for the second consecutive year and they will be met by the St. Francis Borgia Knights as they look to move to the state quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon in a game that will be broadcasted on KJFF.
Festus (18-8) defeated Lutheran South in the district championship to reach the sectional round. The Tigers fell to Union last year 9-1 in Sectionals. Borgia will head to Sunset Park a record of 18-6 on the year and are looking to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2012.
Borgia comes in playing excellent softball of late winning ten of their last eleven games in large part due to their ability in the circle. Junior Elizabeth Lynchard has put up dominant numbers in the circle posting an earned run average of just 1.09 over 109 and 1/3 innings pitched this season for a record of 15-3.
Festus head coach Jeff Montgomery said it’s important for his team to get on the board early…
The Tigers are hot themselves as they have won their last nine games getting hot at the perfect time. The winning streak comes on the heels of a four game losing streak they had mid-season.
Montgomery added they are confident in pitchers Cailey McFadden and Sarah Hoffman to tame the Borgia bats…
Both Hoffman and McFadden have been outstanding this year combining for a record of 18-8 with Hoffman posting an ERA of 2.30 while McFadden isn’t far behind with a 2.93 ERA. Sophomore Abigail Rickerman is having an outstanding season at the top of the lineup hitting .571 with a home run and 17 RBIs while swiping 39 bases.
The Tigers look to advance to the state quarterfinals against the Borgia Knights Thursday afternoon on KJFF with first pitch slated for 4:30 and pregame coverage coming your way at 4:15.
