Jefferson County cities to place “Fairness” tax on August election ballot

(Jefferson County) It appears that every city located in Jefferson County will have a proposition on the August ballot which will be dubbed a “Fairness Tax”. It will be a use tax since currently there are no local taxes paid for online shopping. Crystal City Administrator Jason Eisenbies says it will help local business.

The Crystal City council voted in favor of placing the issue on the ballot during Monday night’s meeting.

The Herculaneum city council has already voted to place it on the August ballot. City Administrator Jim Kasten says it’s needed.

Other cities that plan to have the ballot issue are Arnold, Byrnes Mill, DeSoto, Festus, Hillsboro, and Pevely.

Unincorporated Jefferson County will likely have a vote on the issue as well, once the County Council agrees to place it on the ballot.
