Don’t Bet on Sports Wagering in 2018

The idea of sports wagering is intriguing to many, but don’t bet on it happening soon.

It’s seemingly unlikely a bill will be passed by the Friday afternoon deadline that marks the end of the 2018 legislative session.

District 21 State Senator Denny Hoskins has drafted Senate Bill 1013 which authorizes sports wagering, as well as Senate Bill 767 which legalizes the use of video lottery terminals, such as video poker, outside of casinos. He has added a sports wagering amendment to 767 which is currently pending on the Informal Calendar.

Hoskins says the main benefactor from sports wagering will be education.

The State Senator adds this is a bi-partisan effort, with legislators both for and opposed on both sides of the isle.
