(FESTUS) The KJFF Sports Talk end-of-the-summer series with Jefferson County Athletic Directors began Wednesday with Jefferson R-7’s Jason Dreyer.
The Blue Jays high school fall sports season kicks off Friday, August 24th when the football team travels to Bishop Dubourg. Jefferson R-7 will also have girls volleyball, softball and cross country. Earlier this summer, 41-year-old volleyball head coach Ashleigh Nagel suffered a heart attack and spent a couple of weeks in the ICU. Dreyer reports coach Nagel is out of the ICU and is now in rehab.
Assistant volleyball coach Tara Fischer has been named the acting volleyball coach.
R-7 announced in late June that Robert Kuehnle is back as the head softball coach after Melanie Rouggly took a job as an assistant principal in the Kingston school district. Even with Kuehnle now splitting time as the head baseball and softball coach, Dreyer remains confident the team is in good hands.
Then there’s the cross country season with 3rd-year head coach Mollie Rhodes. Dreyer says the program remains in excellent hands.
The cross country team will visit Jackson for its first meet of the season on the 25th. The first official Blue Jays softball game is August 25th in the North County Tournament. Volleyball’s first official game is Monday, August 27th at Kingston. On KJFF Sports Talk Thursday at 4:15, we’ll continue our end-of-the-summer series with Festus AD Eric Allen.
