(DESOTO) DeSoto’s Aaron Young has been voted by the coaches as the 2019 Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Dragons to a 2nd place finish at state in Class 3 a couple of weekends ago.

The 2nd place finish was the best team finish in program history and uniquely enough came on the heels of a 4th place finish at state in 2018, which at the time was the record.

Coach Young is still quite amazed and at a loss for words for what his girls were able to accomplish.

As for the Coach of the Year award, Coach Young is once again extremely thankful to the other coaches for voting for him.

Coach Young had two girls make the All-State team with senior Lillie Kaempfe finishing 21st and sophomore Kayla Vogelsang coming in 12th. The 12th place finish for Vogelsang earned her the honor of Dream Team Cross Country Runner of the Year as voted on by area coaches.
