(HILLSBORO) The Grandview softball team will have a new face running the show in 2019 as last year’s head coach Korey Dear is stepping away for the season to care for her soon-to-be newborn.

So, enter Grandview Athletic Director and new softball head coach Don Jeffries.

The Eagles finished 2018 with a 10-9 loss to Valle Catholic in the Class 1 District 6 semifinals, but return a good portion of their players that got them there. One of them is senior Alyssa Kohl.

Another standout is Katie Huskey, who recently signed with Hannibal-LaGrange for volleyball, and Jeffries values her leadership skills and her experience as a first baseman. Coach Jeffries continues with giving praise to some of his underclassmen and their ability to lead.

In terms of performance on the field and who has the ability to carry the Eagles in 2019, Jeffries doesn’t hesitate when bringing up Hallie Tobnick and Natalee Moore.

Grandview softball begins its season with a game Friday at 4:30 at Potosi.
