(Desloge) A woman from Farmington is in jail after being charged with domestic assault in the first degree and armed criminal action Monday night in Desloge. Samantha Hemsath-Haas is being held at the St. Francois County Jail on a $100,000 bond and conditions that she must have a GPS monitor and no contact with the victim.
According to Desloge Police Chief James Bullock, an officer was standing outside the police station on Desloge Drive when a vehicle pulled into the parking lot. The officer says that the victim, a 33-year-old male, got out of the vehicle on the passenger side and was bleeding. The victim reported that he had been stabbed by the female passenger, identified as Hemsath-Haas, who was his girlfriend.
Bullock said the weapon used was initially believed to be a knife, but after an examination of the vehicle, it was determined that the victim was injured by a hatchet that was located in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle witnessed the incident and said Hemsath-Haas lunged forward at the victim in the passenger seat several times. The victim had two 4-inch lacerations and an additional 1.5 inch laceration.
