(Hillsboro) Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of special search canines began excavating an area of land on Thursday, located near the Hillsboro Civic Club grounds. It was part of the ongoing search for Amanda Jones who has been missing since 2005. A private group searched an area back in May and wanted to resume the search again. Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Grant Bissell says these search dogs are specially trained to sniff out human remains.
Bissell says a backhoe was brought in to help make the process easier, and the dogs gave the indication of something being there, but not what they were looking for.
Meanwhile, the search for Amanda Jones continues, and Bissell says the investigators will continue to discuss options and next steps to take in the case.
