Festus Junior Legion Team Begins Zone 4 Tournament in Ste. Genevieve

(FESTUS) The Festus Post 253 Junior Legion baseball team is carrying a 22-5 record and the top seed into the Zone 4 Tournament on Thursday in Ste. Genevieve.

Festus will first face Kirkwood, a team that head coach Justin Neel and his guys have yet to see this summer. Even so, Coach Neel expects a tough test and then some.

Coach Neel has been impressed by pitchers Hunter Bassin of Crystal City, Justin Reed of Festus, and Daylen Whitener and Dylan Schnitzler of Jefferson. It’s their ability to throw strikes that makes them so effective.

As for the offensive side of things, Jefferson’s Colby Ott immediately comes to mind for Coach Neel.

Dawson Jakoubek of Jefferson and Collin Reando of Festus were also mentioned as consistent offensive players. Again, the Festus Post 253 Junior Legion team will take on Kirkwood on Thursday at 5 to begin its Zone 4 Tournament run. All games will be played at Yanks Field in Ste. Genevieve.
