(FESTUS) The PGA’s FedEx Cup Series teed off this past weekend with Patrick Reed winning the Northern Trust Open and catapulting himself into 2nd place in the standings.
Going into the three-part series, Reed was sitting 50th. With his 16-under winning score, Reed jumped to 206 points behind FedEx Cup leader, Brooks Koepka. Reed, who hadn’t won a tournament in 16 months, addressed the losing streak.
Monday on KJFF Sports Talk “Golf and More” with Mike Murphy, Mike gave his perspective on Reed’s downfall and his rise back to the top.
The 2nd tournament of the three-part FedEx Cup Series begins Thursday at the BMW Championship in Medinah, Illinois. The top 70 golfers will play all four days, vying for a spot in the top 30, which will then participate in the Tour Championship from August 22nd through the 25th in Atlanta, Georgia.
While Sports Talk was going on, the St. Louis Cardinals announced the firing of assistant hitting coach Mike Budaska. This, coming off the heels of an 11-9 slugfest between the Pirates and Cardinals on Sunday. Mike Murphy had a hot take on the matter.
Budaska had been coaching in the Cardinals organization since 2008. Triple-A Memphis’s hitting coach Jobel Jimenez will join the major league staff for the remainder of the season. The Redbirds are in Kansas City Tuesday night to begin a two-game set with the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. The Cardinals are 61-55 this season and currently in second place in the NL Central, just two games behind the Chicago Cubs.
