Possible problems with municipal courts moving to county

(DeSoto, Festus) As municipal courts in Missouri are moving there precedings and handlings to their respective county circuit courts, problems could arise down the road. Crystal City Attorney Scott Harness has several concerns on the matter. Harness believes simple traffic violations and tickets that can be handled quickly will become an all-day affair as opposed to something that could be settled in a matter of minutes.

Harness says the other issue is public safety, as in many cases the local municipal officers will need to be present in county court for certain hearing and trials.

The cities of Festus and DeSoto are the first to officially do away their municipal courts and will have the Jefferson County Circuit courts handle their fines and hearings in January.
