COMTREA’s Tails with Tales Program Continues to Grow

(Jefferson County) If you saw reports of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal’s (ASPCA) work in St. Croix after Hurricane Maria, you may recall the story about a dog named Winnie who was displaced by the storm and rescued by the ASPCA.

After her rescue, Winnie made a long journey to Jefferson County where she now lives with her loving family.

Recently, the three-year-old Wheaton terrier/Shar-pei mix transitioned from a receiver of help to a provider of care by earning an official dog therapy certification where she takes part in COMTREA’s Tails with Tales program.

Laura Casey is the Program Manager of the COMTREA Tails with Tales program. She goes into detail about Winnie’s journey.

Casey explains what COMTREA’s Tails with Tales program is all about.

Winnie visits local schools, hospitals and rehabilitation centers, and are regulars at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center.
