2020 Hillsboro boys’ soccer: New look, same high standards

(Hillsboro) The Hillsboro Hawks are fresh off one of the best seasons in their boys’ soccer team’s history.

And while a lot is different as the 2020 season approaches, first-year head coach Sam Nansel still has his sights set high for the program.

Nansel says, even with his first head coaching gig coming in the middle of a pandemic, offseason prep has not slowed down.

The Hawks have a number of stars to replace from last year’s district champion, which also reached the Class 3 state quarterfinals and won 18 games.

Chief among them is all-state midfielder Mark Moore, who racked up 35 goals last season.

But Nansel is confident in returners like senior Werner Finder and junior Colton Leonard.

Add on the return of starting goalkeeper A.J. Krasnesky, and Nansel says he has the Hawks eyeing a return run to the state tournament.

Hillsboro boys’ soccer opens the 2020 season on September 1st when they host Northwest.
