(PARK HILLS) Day one of the 64th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament in Park Hills is in the books. We had all eight games on the MYMOINFO SPORTSTREAM.

The day started with the top-seeded Central Lady Rebels advancing over the 8th-seeded Festus Lady Tigers 69-36.

Central had the transition game going early.

Kaley Kimball led all scorers with 18. Coach Josh Mapes was happy to see every player contribute.

The Rebels improve to 10-0 with the win and will take on Steelville in the semifinals.

The Steelville Lady Cardinals participated in the second girls quarterfinal. It was exactly what a four versus five matchup should be, a thriller that went down to the wire as 4-seed Steelville topped 5-seed Arcadia Valley 59-57.

Gracee Smith blew up for AV, giving the Tigers a two possession led midway through the 4th.

Smith finished with 32 in the loss. The Tigers held the lead late when Alyssa Church put the Cardinals out front for good.

Naomi Perkins led Steelville in scoring with 19. Coach Seth Collins says composure was the key for his team.

The Lady Cardinals are 6-1 and will once again face Central in the semifinals Saturday afternoon at 1 on the MYMOINFO SPORTS STREAM. The Lady Tigers fall to 2-3 and will meet Festus in the consolation semis tomorrow morning at 10.

The number one ranked team in Class one, but the number two seed in this Central Christmas Tournament, the South Iron Lady Panthers defeated Fredericktown in game three 57-47.

Michaela Ayers beat the buzzer to stretch the lead to 12 going into the break.

Michaela and Madison Ayers led the Panthers in scoring with 15 apiece.

The Panthers pushed the lead to 16 in the second half, but Fredericktown put pressure on South Iron and was able to cut the deficit to four late in the game. Kendall Dodd scored 21 for Fredericktown with 20 coming in the second half.

South Iron coach Lawrence Graves says his team is learning how to deal with success and adversity.

In the final girls first round game, 3-seed Ste. Genevieve had no problems getting past 6-seed Potosi 54-36. Lady Dragon Maci Reynolds led all scoring with 17. Reynolds and the Lady Dragons were on fire in the final minute of the first half.

Ste. Gen then hit a demoralizing last second shot to end the half.

The Ste. Gen girls improve to 7-0 and will play South Iron in the semifinals on Saturday at 2:30 on the MYMOINFO SPORTS STREAM. Potosi falls to 4-3 and will take on Fredericktown in the Consolation semis.

Then the boys took to the court for first round action. In the first game, the South Iron Panthers beat the Crystal City Hornets with a final score of 68-36. South Iron held the lead in the first half and continued its dominance for the rest of the game.

With the win the South Iron Panthers are now in the quarterfinals and will be facing off against the Jefferson R-7 Bluejays on Saturday on J-98.

The Jefferson R-7 Bluejays won against the Fredericktown Blackcats in the Central Christmas Tournament as heard on the MYMOINFO SPORTS STREAM with a final score of 58-52.

Jefferson had Fredericktown down 24-12 at the half but the Blackcats fought back in the second half and got the deficit to 45-42 but couldn’t complete the full comeback.

The Festus Tigers pulled off a big win against the Farmington Knights with a final score of 57-52.

It was an upset game with a back-and-forth hard fought first half that ended with the Tigers on top 27-21. The second half was no different with the Knights rapidly trying to get the lead by pulling out all the stops and leaving it all on the court.

The Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game went to Damarion Anderson with this eventual game-winning shot.

The North County Raiders beat the Herculaneum Blackcats in the final game tonight with a final score of 73-50. The Raiders led the game all the way, stringing the Blackcats along for the ride. Dominating for a bulk of the game was North County’s Karter Kekec.

Head Coach of the Raiders Jimmy Palmer is feeling good about his boys.

Now North County will be facing the Festus Tigers in the quarterfinals of the Central Christmas Tournament on Saturday at 5:30 on J-98.

Day 2 of the Central Christmas Tournament tomorrow will only feature the boys bracket and the rest of those first round games.

The lineup is 2-seed Central vs. 15-seed Potosi at 4 pm; 7-seed Steelville vs. 10-seed DeSoto at 5:30 pm; 3-seed Hillsboro vs. 14-seed Perryville at 7 pm; and 6-seed Ste. Genevieve vs. 11-seed Arcadia Valley. Pregame coverage of Day 2 will begin at 3:45 and will be broadcast on the MYMOINFO SPORTS STREAM.
