(Ellsinore) Championship day of the Black River League Tournament is here and J-98 will provide coverage all day long. The 3rd place girls game kicks off our coverage and features #3 East Carter (7-9) and #5 Bunker (5-9). These two teams met about a week and half ago on East Carter’s home court with the Redbirds winning 54-45. Bunker head coach Brandon Robinson says his team had a couple of chances to win in the late stages of the first game.
East Carter looks to defend their home court once again. The Redbirds and Eagles tip-off at 12:30 on J-98.
The second game of the afternoon will feature the boys 3rd place match up with #3 Bunker (10-4) and #4 Ellington (8-6). These two teams have also met once this season and the Eagles took that one 69-55. Bunker head coach Rod Gorman says the Whippets have a couple of prolific scorers.

After a short break in varsity action we pick our coverage back up around 4:45 for the girls championship game which is a rematch of last year’s thriller between #1 South Iron (11-3) and #2 Ellington (10-3). South Iron topped Ellington earlier this season 64-51. However, the Whippets were without one of their key play-makers in Gretchen Hackworth and head coach David Burrows thinks she may be the difference in this one.
South Iron head coach Lawrence Graves thinks this Whippets team is special because of their team chemistry.
The Panthers and Whippets tip-off right around 5:00 on J-98.
The final game of the day pits #1 South Iron (13-3) up against #2 East Carter (12-3) in the boys championship. This will be a rematch of last year’s championship and South Iron just beat the Redbirds two weeks ago 83-47. East Carter head coach Jordan Penn hopes his team can limit the turnovers in the second match up.
South Iron head coach Dusty Dinkins notes that East Carter has a few studs as well.
