Jefferson College to Host Dedication Ceremony for on campus observatory

(Jefferson County) A dedication ceremony is planned on Sunday, September 12 for the newly constructed observatory on the Jefferson College Hillsboro campus.

Maryanne Angliongto is the Associate Dean of Math, Physics and Technology at Jefferson College.

She says the dedication, in conjunction with an “Aim for the Stars” event, gets underway at 6 that evening.

The observatory is being built in phases.

The first phase just recently wrapped up with the installation of the dome and 16 inch telescope which was donated to the college.

The observatory is located near the college softball field, north of the Hillsboro campus on Farm Road.

This will mark the first public observatory in Jefferson County that’s affiliated with the St. Louis Astronomical Society.
