6-Alarm Fire at De Soto Recycling Center, FRC

(De Soto)

It was a long evening for firefighters who battled what was a 6-alarm fire at De Soto Recycling Center, FRC, on Tuesday night.

De Soto Fire Department Chief James Maupin says fire crews received the call around 5:12pm.

According to Chief Maupin, around 85 firefighters were on scene helping fight the fire which was an intensive call due to the buildings size and amount of flammable contents inside the structure.

The blaze was contained in about 2-and-a-half hours with fire crews remaining on scene for a total of 7 hours.

There was one employee, who lived at the plant, inside the building at the time of the fire. He was able to make it out safely and no injuries were reported on the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Essentially all fire agencies in Jefferson County responded to the 6-alarm call.

Agencies from surrounding Washington and St. Francois Counties were on scene as well.
