#7 West County’s Season Ends At The Hands Of #1 Portageville, 8-4, In Class 3 Quarterfinals

(Portageville) The #7 West County baseball team fell in the Class Three Quarterfinals to #1 Portageville, 8-4, Thursday afternoon. Six runs by Portageville in the top of the first was too much to overcome for West County.

Sophomore starter Nolan Rawson was steady over the next four innings, giving up just one run during that time. West County only had one base runner over the first four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rawson was walked and scored on an RBI double by sophomore Ty Harlow, who then scored on a sac fly by senior Trey Wright.

Sophomore reliever Noah Sansoucie gave up one run on one hit over two innings.

West County continued to rally in the sixth. Senior Caden Merrill led off with a double and scored and RBI groundout by junior Carter Reed. Sophomore Jaxon Campbell was hit by a pitch with Rawson following him.

Portageville senior Trey Benthal threw a complete game five-hitter with four strikeouts, one walk and a hit batter.

West County coach Bobby Simily was proud of the effort his guys gave.

Freshman Ryan Hull and Campbell each recorded a hit. Sophomore catcher Julian Thebeau caught two runners stealing.

West County ends the year with a record of 20-5 and champions of Class Three District Three.
