(CRYSTAL CITY) The 3-seeded St. Vincent Indians have advanced to the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic Championship Game after upsetting 2-seed Jefferson 71-64 in Crystal City Wednesday night.

The Blue Jays led by 2 after 1, but the Indians outscored them 14-10 in the 2nd quarter to lead by 2 at the half. A 4th quarter push by St. Vincent extended the lead to 15 at one point, their largest of the night, and it was all thanks to a pair of Isaac Ernst 3’s.

The real star of the show though was St. Vincent’s junior point guard Garrett Dobbelare who put up 28 points on the night, including 9-of-9 from the free throw line. As for the Blue Jays, Easton Null and Jon Weik combined to score 58 of the team’s 64. Head coach Sean Breeze takes the blame for so much of the team’s production coming from just those two guys.

St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy was proud of the team effort, but certainly had high praise for the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game in Dobbelare.

In the loss for the Blue Jays, Null set the Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 9. However, Jefferson will now play for 3rd place on Friday at 6 against Crystal City, a game you can hear on AM 1400 KJFF. The win for St. Vincent puts them in the championship game to take on top-seed Saxony Lutheran on Friday night at 7:30.
