(CRYSTAL CITY) The 7th Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic draws to a close Friday night with Jefferson and Crystal City battling for third place on KJFF and St. Vincent and Saxony Lutheran fighting for the championship on J-98.

Six-seed Crystal City fell to one-seed Saxony on Tuesday in the semifinals by 20, but Hornets head coach Lee Richardson was encouraged by the way his players competed. He knows his team will have to come out with the same level of intensity, especially on defense.

Two-seed Jefferson lost to three-seed St. Vincent 71-64 on Wednesday in the second semifinal. Coach Sean Breeze expects the team to get up for the game against the Hornets with the implications involved.

The championship will follow the third-place game as Saxony Lutheran meets St. Vincent, a rematch of the last two Rolla Herbert championships in which the Crusaders have won.

Indians head coach Bruce Valleroy knows that this Saxony team is a bit different than last year’s, but his boys will still need to come out ready.

Crusaders fourth-year head man Kevin Williams understands this year’s squad is different and that they are a work in progress.

The third place game between Jefferson and Crystal City tips off at 6 p.m. on AM 1400 KJFF with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 5:45 p.m. The Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic title bout is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on J-98.
