Hillsboro re elects Mayor Russell and Prop M passes

(Hillsboro) The residents in the City of Hillsboro have re-elected Buddy Russell as its mayor for the next two years. Russell defeated challenger Douglas G. Browning Jr. 295 to 61 in the Tuesday election. Russell says he wants to continue to focus on bringing in more retail business and better pay for the police department.

Russell says having their city-wide sales tax increase on recreational marijuana called Proposition M get approved will help out some.

Proposition M passed with nearly 67 percent of the vote. There was an opening on the Hillsboro Board of Alderman in Ward 4, and in that race, Kevin Payne defeated Dennis K. Bradley 52 to 40. Payne previously served on the board over ten years ago.
