Agers hits milestone, St. Pius shoots strong to beat Grandview on KJFF

Stifling defense, sharp 3-point shooting and a piece of history highlighted a strong performance for the St. Pius Lancers as they beat the Grandview Eagles 48-19 Monday night on KJFF.

The historic moment came early.

But St. Pius senior guard A.J. Agers wouldn’t just stop at hitting the millennium mark in career points.

She had more big plays in store on her special night.

Agers hit 4 three-pointers and scored all of her game-high 16 points in the first half.

She said she was just happy to have the 1,000th point finally pass.

St. Pius lead 22-1 at the end of the first quarter on the strength of 5 triples as a team and never looked back.

Lancers head coach Aaron Portell said his team responded after a disappointing loss in the previous game against Herculaneum.

St. Pius improves to 10-4 overall and 1-1 in the JCAA Small-School Division.

Grandview falls to 0-2 in conference play and 2-9 overall.

While the Eagles play Kingston Tuesday, the Lancers wait to play again until Thursday versus Oak Ridge.
