(FESTUS) Festus cross country runner Alec Whitener finished 10th at this year’s state meet in Jefferson City, helping the Tigers win their 5th consecutive state championship.

Alec improved his placement from last season by 15 spots and says greater mental fortitude was the reason behind that.

Alec really leaned on teammates and fellow Dream Teamers Max McDaniel and Simon Ogle to get better this year.

For Alec, the biggest part of his legacy as a Tiger was setting a good example for future Festus cross country runners.

Alec Whitener’s fastest 5K time for his career is 16-minutes and 24-seconds, which he accomplished at the Parkway West Dale Shepherd Invitational back in September. Alec also added Scholar Athlete 4 years, Cross Country and Track and Field 4 years, Varsity Team Leader in Cross Country 2 years, and National Honor Society 2.5 years to his list of accomplishments.
