All is Swell at Double-A Corpus Christi for Former Crystal City Hornet Alex Winkelman
(CRYSTAL CITY) Former Crystal City baseball player Alex Winkelman has been a member of the Houston Astros minor league system since getting drafted out of Southeast Missouri State back in 2015.
Over the last 3 years, Winkelman has advanced through Rookie ball, A-ball, and Advanced A-ball to reach the Double-A’s Corpus Christi Hooks. Alex gives an update on his season so far.
Through 56 innings pitched, Alex owns a 3.51 ERA with 61 strikeouts, 4 wins, 2 losses and 3 saves. Winkelman picks out his favorite moment of the season so far.
The Double-A season is divided into 2 halves and the Hooks finished in first place during the first half to guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. Another cool thing for Alex since being with the Hooks was the opportunity last year to play with Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel when he was in Corpus Christi on a rehab assignment. Winkelman learned that he and Keuchel feature similar pitches as lefties.
Alex Winkelman joined KJFF Sports Talk today and also congratulated former Festus Legion baseball head coach Pat Bone on his jersey retirement last Friday.
