(Cape Girardeau) The Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on law enforcement to investigate a possible bias motive for a “suspicious” fire at a Cape Girardeau mosque.

The blaze started Friday morning at the front door of the Islamic Center in Cape.

The mosque suffered significant damage to the front entrance and on the second floor.

Officials with the State Fire Marshal’s office, the A.T.F. and the F.B.I. are all investigating.

The mosque fire took place the morning after the first night of Ramadan, which is the lunar month where Muslims fast from the break of dawn until sunset.
