Arcadia Valley’s Dettmer named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Ironton) Arcadia Valley Tigers sophomore Emma Dettmer is the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Dettmer won the Class 2 District 1 girls’ cross country championship on Saturday, finishing the 5K course in 20-and-a-half minutes.

It’s not only the third-fastest time in Arcadia Valley history, but it’s also the fifth time in just this season that Dettmer has set a personal record.

Tigers head coach Don Barzowksi says Dettmer’s progress has been remarkable.

But Barzowksi also knows what is driving Dettmer to be so good.

Dettmer is just the fourth girls’ runner to win an individual district championship at Arcadia Valley.

She’ll race in the Class 2 state championships Saturday at noon in Columbia.

As Athlete of the Week, she receives a t-shirt, a certificate and a coupon for free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
