(St. Louis, Mo.) A man from Paragould, Arkansas was taken to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in St. Francois County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident took place northbound on Highway 67, north of Route ‘H’, when 39-year-old William Rawls of Paragould was walking westbound in the second lane of Highway 67.

Rawls was walking with his back to his vehicle, which was located in the first lane of the highway after it had been involved in a prior crash.

Then a Ford Ranger driven by 47-year-old Daona Parker of Poplar Bluff was traveling northbound on Highway 67 and was unable to see Rawls.

As a result, the front of the Ranger struck Rawls.

Parker was uninjured in the accident but Rawls sustained serious injuries.
