(STEELVILLE, Mo.) – Those who didn’t know the name Allie Gibbs before last weekend’s Class 2 track and field championships certainly know her now. The Steelville Cardinals‘ senior distance runner earned yet another state championship during one of the most exciting races of the entire weekend, when she beat out Brookfield’s Alex Sharp in the two-mile final race by just nine one-hundredths of a second. Gibbs said she led for most of the race, but had to keep pushing to earn her third-straight title.

Gibbs said competing with this year’s Steelville track and field team was a dream come true.

But Gibbs isn’t done with her running career, as she will continue to compete when she joins the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

As Athlete of the Week, Gibbs will send $25 from Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy to Camp Hope, an organization that provides wounded veterans with all-expenses-paid retreats to its campground in St. Francois County.
