(ANNAPOLIS) The Central Rebels girls basketball team topped the South Iron Panthers 55-36 in a Central Christmas Tournament Tuneup. The Rebels and Panthers had a back and forth opening quarter before the Rebels began to pull away in the second quarter.

Sophia Horton lead the Rebels in scoring with 20, 17 of which came in the first half. In the second half, Central turned the defensive intensity up as they held South Iron to just 13 second half points and in typical Rebel fashion they were turning defense into offense.

After the game head coach of the Rebels head coach Josh Mapes had some high praise for his team’s defensive effort.

The Rebels stay perfect at 9-0 while the Panthers suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 7-1. Both Central and South Iron are the 1 and 2 seeds in the Central Christmas Tournament where they will play their next games. The Rebels face the Potosi Trojans while the Panthers take on the Fredericktown Blackcats.
