Betty Martin of DeSoto passed away on December 17th at the age of 95. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Science and Home Economics degree. Immediately following college, she held cooking classes to promote the use of gas appliances. From 1950-1958 she was a revered Home Economics and Biology Teacher at the Hillsboro R-3 School District. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Next Step for Life. She also served the Hillsboro community by being a member of the Hillsboro R-3 School Board. She was a member of the Hillsboro Garden Club, the Modern Seekers Club, the Missouri Snowbirds, and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her daughters; Donna Soto of North Carolina, and Lois Menius of Kansas City, one son; Curt of Ironton, three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Betty Martin will be Saturday morning at 11 at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday morning from 10 until the time of the service at the church.
