(Carter County) A large reward is being offered by Missouri’s Operation Game Thief in regards to an elk killed November 17th or 18th in Carter County.

20-thousand dollars could be yours if you give the Missouri Department of Conservation info that leads to the conviction of the poacher who shot a female adult elk on National Park Service property near the end of ‘M’ Highway in Carter County.

Gerald Smith works for the conservation department at the Ozark Regional Office in West Plains.

He says it’s a shame because the public enjoy seeing these majestic animals.

He says most of the elk herd stay where they are supposed to but a few do some wondering outside the elk zone.

If you have any information about this elk poaching incident, call the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-392-1111 or you can call the M.D.C’s office in West Plains at 417-256-7161.

The hotline is managed 24 hours a day and callers can remain anonymous.

Callers should request to be considered for the 20-thousand dollar reward if their info leads to a conviction.
