(Park Hills) Day number two of the Central Christmas Tournament has the rest of the boys first round games. It begins with the top seed in the state in Class 1 but the number two seed for this tournament, South Iron, going against the 15th seed De Soto Dragons. The Panthers are 9-0, but coach Dusty Dinkins always feels like there is room for improvement…

De Soto are 3-8. The Dragons fell to North County at the MAC Rotary Shootout last weekend but coach DJ Hardy was proud of his guys’ effort…

Upstart Potosi comes in at 7-1 with the seven seed. They’ll play #10 and 3-4 Fredericktown in game two. Two of the area’s highest scorers meet with Fredericktown senior Andrew Starkey going against super soph Carter Whitley for Potosi. Potosi coach Jackson Conaway says they want to move to the far right side of the bracket this year…

Next it’s the 3 seed Festus Tigers taking on the 14 seed Crystal City Hornets. Festus fell to South Iron in last year’s Christmas tournament championship and graduated some key pieces from that team, however, coach Jason Therrell has seen the younger guys coming along rather quickly…

Festus are 6-1. Crystal City has a record of 6-4. Festus beat Crystal City in the first round of last year’s tournament by a score of 69-44. Hornets coach Phil Tessereau says his guys are ready for the challenge…

The first round concludes with six seed Hillsboro going against 11th seed Arcadia Valley, scheduled for an 8:30 tipoff. Hillsboro is 5-2.

Arcadia Valley comes in 5-3. All their losses have been competitive and their scoring differential is plus 14 per game. Coach David Prater is looking forward to his team competing in Park Hills…
