A Bonne Terre man who led authorities on a high-speed chase across 2 counties has been hit with 3 felony charges.

48-year-old Jeffrey Mell has been charged with resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner and exceeding the speed limit.

A probable cause statement from the St. Francois County sheriff’s department says a deputy tried to pull Mell over in Park Hills for a broken light and failing to use his turn signal.

Mell pulled over and seemed to indicate the officer to come over, but he then cut through a parking lot and headed north on Highway 67.

Mell reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour and evaded authorities until his vehicle ran out of gas in Jefferson County, and he was apprehended after trying to escape on foot.

A crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and other drug paraphenalia were found in the vehicle.

Mell claimed he fled because he has an active parole warrant out.

Mell is being held without bond at the St. Francois County jail.
