Jefferson County Health Department changes course, rescinds mask order

The Jefferson County Health Department has rescinded its previous ordinance requiring citizens to wear a mask in public.

The board held an emergency meeting earlier Friday afternoon to change the decision they had Thursday night putting an ordinance in requiring anyone ages 5 or older to wear a mask at any time social distancing can not practiced in public places.

County Executive Dennis Gannon says even he was caught off guard by the quick change.

The mask mandate was set to go into effect Monday.

The board had voted 3-2 in favor Thursday night.
