(Ellington) The boys championship of the Black River League Tournament is set. Top seed South Iron defeated Ellington 67-48 and two seeded Bunker took down East Carter 66-41.
South Iron held Ellington to just two points in the first quarter and led 29-11 at the half. Ellington had a strong third quarter and only trailed by 10 going into the fourth, but South Iron pulled away thanks to string offensive games from Sawyer Huff and Marquis Burse…
Huff scored 19 points while Burse added 17 points. Coach Dusty Dinkins said his team fought through some struggles to seal the win…
For Ellington, Brock Morey scored 19 points and Colby Hedrick scored 17 points.
South Iron improves to 16-2. Ellington drops to 6-9.
In the second semifinal, senior Cade Sutton dropped 31 points to lead the way for Bunker. He got going late early in the first quarter and started finding his three point shot shortly after.
After the game, Bunker head coach Rod Gorman had high praise for his team’s performance.
The 12-2 Eagles now move on to Saturday night’s championship game against South Iron, which is set to tip off at 6 o’clock. Ellington and 9-6 East Carter will face off in the third-place game.
