Brooke Bennett Battles Injuries To Become Inaugural Girls’ Wrestler Of The Year

(Bonne Terre) Despite injuries that would make almost anyone think twice about playing a sport, North County iron-woman Brooke Bennett flourished on the mat and became our first ever Girls Dream Team Wrestler of the Year. Bennett was listening to her radio during the Dream Team selection show to support her friends. Then she heard her name called.

Bennett wrestles at 194 pounds and was 26-2 this year with 20 wins coming by fall. Along the way she won the District 1 championship but something happened in the week leading up.

Bennett won that match 7-5. At the state championships in Columbia she got to the semifinals where she was defeated. Bennett wrestled her way back in the consolation bracket to win 3rd place despite losing the feeling in her arms once again. After finishing 6th at state her sophomore year, Bennett sees the progression to a championship match next year.

Bennett won three tournaments and is the SEMO Conference champion.
