Broombaugh ready to lead Festus Fire Department

(Festus) Jeff Broombaugh has officially been the Festus Fire Chief for just over two weeks. He was hired by a recommendation of Festus Mayor Sam Richards and was approved by the City Council last month, and his first official day as chief was December 5th. Broombaugh retired as chief of the Rock Community Fire Protection District in June but decided to take the open Festus Fire Chief position to lead them going forward.

He says there are a few differences between being a part of a fire district as opposed to a city-funded fire department.

Broombaugh says the department has a great mix of veterans in the profession and some new blood.

The City of Festus is currently conducting a comprehensive plan for the future of the fire department. The plan includes future ideas for the firehouse and if a new facility is needed, or building a second firehouse while renovating the existing building might be the best plan moving forward. Also included is where a new firehouse would be located if that is the best course of action. Broombaugh replaces Travis Wood as the Festus Fire Chief after Wood was fired in August.
