(CEDAR HILL) The Northwest boys track and field team has been led by 2-time state qualifier Tanner Campbell, who has six 1st place finishes this season.

Campbell has sprinkled in top finishes in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump, including sweeping all three in the Jim Farrell Invitational in St. Louis on Tuesday. Head coach Ken Campbell says that Tanner believes that he has yet to meet his own expectations.

Another leader of the group is senior Eli Kruse, who has actually scored the most points for the Lions this season.

Then there is the potential that freshman Mikel Davis has shown. Coach Campbell says that he is probably the 3rd fastest kid on the team but the fastest when it comes to relays. He tells a story about the Vianney Invitational and Mikel anchoring the 4-by-400 relay team in place of the usual anchor, Joey Keller.

The Northwest boys track and field team still has a couple of meets before districts begin on May 11th at Hillsboro High School. Northwest is in Class 5 District 1.
