Captain Mendoza inducted into the Festus R-6 School District Hall of Fame

(Festus) Captain Carneysha Mendoza will become the 28th member to be inducted into the Festus R-6 School District Hall of Fame.

Captain Mendoza, 42, is a graduate of the class of 1998 and now resides in the Washington D.C. area and is part of the commanding staff with the United State Capitol Police.

KJFF had the chance to speak with Captain Mendoza before her induction ceremony. We asked her about her childhood and growing up in the Festus community.

After graduation Captain Mendoza spent four years in the United States Army where she served in administrative and investigative roles.

She began her law enforcement career in the Army, but, immediately after her discharge in July 2002, her interest in law enforcement led her to join the United States Capitol Police.

In her role with the Capitol Police, she was awarded for her excellence in leadership after a shooting where multiple people, including a congressman, were wounded, and most recently she was acknowledged for her leadership during the Capitol riot.

She has been a part of presidential inaugurations, state of the union addresses, and funerals for dignitaries.

She has had the honor of meeting the last five Presidents of the United States as well as several well-known civil rights leaders.

Captain Mendoza was surprised and truly grateful when she found out she was chosen as the next inductee into the Festus R-6 School District Hall of Fame.

Given all of her accolades and accomplishments throughout her career, we asked Captain Mendoza what is the best advice she can give to someone wishing to achieve their goals.

Captain Mendoza will be inducted as part of the 2021 Festus R-6 Hall of Fame selection.
