Central And Potosi Move On To Girls Class 4 District 2 Championship

(Ste. Genevieve) The Central and Potosi girls’ basketball teams won their semifinal games Thursday night and will face each other in the Class 4 District 2 title game on Saturday.
In the first game of the night, Central defeated Herculaneum 85-45. Central got off to a hot start in the first quarter, scoring 30 points in the opening frame and never looking back. Twins Taylor and Allysa O’Connor combined for 35 points in the game.
10 different players scored for Central, and head coach Josh Mapes discussed his team’s depth in a postgame interview.
Herculaneum’s season comes to an end with a 15-13 record. Head coach Riley Blair reflected on his team’s season and talked about what the seniors have contributed in their time at the school.
Central’s 85 points is the most they have scored in a game this season. The win improves their record to 24-3.
In our second semifinal, Ste. Genevieve got out to a rocking start before Potosi exploded for a 57-22 win. The Dragons went up 9-2 early and grabbed 14 rebounds in the first quarter, but Potosi followed up with a 40-5 run that left the game in no question. Early foul trouble forced Potosi coach Allie Golden to reach into the bench. Enter six-foot-three sophomore Blair Sitton, who provided 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots…
Nora Henry had a great game off the bench scoring nine points and grabbing eight boards. Ava Robart pumped in two three-pointers as part of her 10 points. Golden tells us what flipped from the midway point of the first quarter…
The Trojans improve to 14-13 and will face the Rebels in the district championship Saturday evening at 6 o’clock in J98.
Ste. Genevieve’s Alli Byington knocked down three shots from beyond the arc en route to 10 points. Kayden Huck collected 10 rebounds. The Dragons end their campaign at 9-15.
