Central and South Iron Move on to Title Game in Boys Central Christmas Tournament

#1 South Iron 79 – 63 #5 Farmington

(Park Hills) The semifinals of the 65th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Basketball Tournament continued tonight with the boy’s semifinals. In semifinal number one, heard on J98, #1 South Iron defeated #5 Farmington 79-63. Farmington jumped out to an early lead but South Iron held a 36-31 halftime lead outscoring Farmington 23-9 in the second quarter.

After halftime South Iron continued to fill it up, took a lead and never let it go.

Luke Lunyou was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game finishing with 21 points. Brock Wakefield added 21 of his own. After the game, head coach Dusty Dinkins said his team’s mindset helped pull them out of the early hole.

South Iron (8-2) punched their ticket to the championship game tomorrow evening on J98 as they attempt to defend their championship from last year. Farmington (7-2) will play for third place tomorrow afternoon on the MyMoInfo SportStream.

#2 North County 56 – 60 # Central Rebels

Semifinal number two saw the #2 North County Raiders taking on the host #3 Central Rebels in a game that proved to be a close one all way through. Central got the win 60-56 to move onto the championship. The game lived up to seeding as it went back and forth all night.

The dynamic duo of Mason Williams and Jobe Bryant showed how well they play together knocking down big shots all night long.

Jobe Bryant was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 36 points and went six of six from the free throw line late to ice to the game. After the game, head coach Brad Gross said it’s awesome to see his young team hang in there in a close one.

Central (8-1) moves on to play South Iron in a rematch of last year’s championship game. North County (7-1) faces Farmington for third place. Coverage of the final day of the Central Christmas Tournament begins at 12:15 tomorrow afternoon on the MyMoinfo SportStream and the championships can be heard on J98 starting with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 5:45.
