Central And Ste. Genevieve Boys Move Onto MAAA Championship Game

(Park Hills) The top seed Central Rebels and two seed Ste. Genevieve Dragons will play for the MAAA boys tournament championship Saturday night.

Central took down four seed Valle Catholic 85-58 Friday night. Valle’s only lead of the game came after scoring the first points of the game. Central raced out to an 11 point lead after one and led 45-28 at the half.

Jobe Bryant was the leading scorer in the game with 24 points…

Bryant was one of four Rebels in double figures. Mason Williams gave 13 points, Kendall Horton added 12 and Zack Boyd scored 10 points.

Coach Brad Gross was pleased with his teams’ pace to open the game…

The Rebels improve to 19-2 on the season.

Valle Catholic were led by Harry Oliver’s 17 points while Chase Fallert scored 14 points. The Warriors are now 14-7 on the year.

In the other semifinal, Ste. Genevieve put together a dominant third quarter to pull away with a 67-46 victory over Potosi. The Dragons won the quarter 24-10, led by Kaden Flye, who scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the period.

After the game, Ste. Genevieve head coach Rob Coleman broke down what worked so well for his team in the third quarter.

Ste. Genevieve improves to 17-4 will play for the conference championship Saturday night at 8:30 against Central. Potosi drops to 17-5 and now faces Valle Catholic in the third place game Saturday evening at 5:30.

Coverage of Saturday’s slate of the MAAA tournament begins at 3:45 on J98 with the girls third place game between West County and North County. That’ll be followed by the boys third place game between Valle Catholic and Potosi. Then it’s the girls championship: #1 Central versus #2 Farmington. The night will end with the boys championship between #1 Central and #2 Ste. Genevieve.
