Central can’t corral Vashon in girl’s hoops state quarters on KREI

(Park Hills) The Central Rebels did not have answers for the number-one Vashon Wolverines and fell 70-44 in the Class 4 girls’ basketball state quarterfinals Saturday on KREI.

Central and star senior guard Sophia Horton battled early to stay right with Vashon.

Horton scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the first quarter to the Rebels within a point.

But the Wolverines closed the first period on a 10-4 run, and when Central didn’t make a basket in the second quarter, Vashon took advantage.

Vashon never looked back, leading 37-20 at halftime and 52-26 at the end of the third quarter for their ninth straight win.

While the Wolverines advance to the state semifinals at 17-1, Central ends the season at 20-5.
