Central Christmas Tournament Placement Games

(Park Hills) The final day of the Central Christmas Tournament kicks off with consolation bracket action on the MyMoInfo SportStream.

The first game of the day will be a JCAA match-up in the boys 5th place game between #7 DeSoto and #8 Festus. The Tigers have dominated this match-up in recent years, winning five of the past six meetings dating back to 2018. DeSoto fell in a hard-fought match-up against North County in the quarterfinals 58-53. Dragons’ head coach Zeb Hammond says it’s going to be tough match-up.

Festus dropped their quarterfinal game against #1 South Iron by a final score of 79-63. Tigers’ head coach Jason Therrell knows the Dragons are an experienced bunch that plays well together.

Tipoff of (5-6) DeSoto and (7-3) Festus is scheduled for 12:30.

The girls take the court in the second game of the afternoon when #3 Steelville and #5 Arcadia Valley square off for third place. 5-4 Arcadia Valley played top seeded and Class 4 number one ranked Central in the semifinals and head coach Ricky Turnbough says this match up will be tough but his girls need to have a winning mindset.

8-3 Steelville had a difficult draw in their semifinal facing defending tournament champion Ste. Gevevieve. Flieg’s equipment pregame show beings right after the boy’s 5th place game on the MyMoInfo SportStream.

The final game of the afternoon will be an MAAA match-up in the boys 3rd place game between #2 North County and #5 Farmington. This match-up has been all Knights over the past decade. Farmington has gone 20-3 against North County since 2010, but the Raiders have won two of the past six. It was an absolute throw down in the semifinals for North County, but they fell to #3 Central 60-56. Raiders’ head coach Jimmy Palmer says his guys need to come out with a fire.

Farmington held an early lead against South Iron in their semifinal but could not hold off the Panthers as they fell 79-63. Knights’ head coach Terry Noble says this game could prove what this team’s identity is.

Tipoff of (7-1) North County and (7-2) Farmington is slated for 3:30. Coverage of the consolation bracket from the 65th Annual Central Christmas Tournament gets underway at 12:15 on the MyMoInfo SportStream.
