(Farmington) The Central Rebels punched their ticket back to the Class 4 girls’ basketball state quarterfinals after toppling Doniphan 49-38 in sectionals Tuesday night on J98.
In a tight first half, Central leaned on big shots from sophomore Khloe Dischbein to take a 26-21 lead.
As the Rebel defense tightened its grip in the second half, Dischbein kept making plays on offense.
Central lead by as much as 14 en route to improving to 21-5.
Rebels head coach Josh Mapes says, while the offense went through a lull in the third quarter, his team never faltered.
In the boys’ sectional showdown, Central fell 64-53 to New Madrid County Central.
The Rebels hung tough early, erasing a 9-point deficit to take a brief lead and getting a big bucket from sophomore star Jobe Bryant to make it a 2-point game at halftime.
But Central could not contain the Eagles in the third quarter.
The Rebels finish the boys’ basketball season with a record of 20-6.
Central will take on St. James in the girls’ Class 4 quarterfinals Saturday afternoon on AM 800 KREI.
