(POTOSI, Mo.) – The Central Rebels spoiled the Potosi Trojans‘ Homecoming night as they grabbed a 38-15 victory Friday on J-98. The first quarter began with a Rebels defensive stop and then the first passing touchdown of the year from quarterback Dylan Corcoran.
After the touchdown, Potosi fumbled it back to Central, leading to a short rushing touchdown for Gage Manion.
In the second quarter, Potosi used two big running plays from Isaac Gaghen and Wade Mercille to set up a touchdown run from Kyle Miller.
But on the ensuing drive, Applebee’s Player of the Game Dayshawn Welch broke free on the first play.
Then with timing winding down in the first half, Central picked up another scoring play through the air.
During the second half, Welch added to his impressive night with another rushing touchdown.
Welch finished with 231 yards on 20 carries along with two interceptions on defense. Potosi was able to find the end zone again late in the fourth with Andrew Coleman sneaking in from a yard out.
Central saw out the rest of the game with a 38-15 final score, solidifying at least a share of the MAFC White conference title. Rebels head coach Kory Schweiss said his defense set the tone for the night.
Trojans head coach Ed Haar said they simply got outplayed.
Central improved to 4-2 with the victory while Potosi is now 3-3. The Rebels will have Homecoming next Friday as they host Perryville while the Trojans make a trip to New Madrid County Central next week.
